Teddy’s Juke Joint

Best thing going in Baton Rouge!  Teddy is the only man I’ve ever seen sing about mayonnaise and still make it sexy.

Vomitt Ghun

I spent some time in the Florida panhandle last year and discovered the most entertaining music channel in America, south of Florida.  If you’ve ever been drunk and bored at 3am in a beach-side condo then you know that’s when Phil Katt hosts UZTV, aka “The Uncharted Zone”.  If Katt’s creepy persona looks familiar, you may recognize him from Mark Gormley’s YouTube sensation Without You.

Since I first saw the Uncharted Zone I’ve been obsessed with Katt.  He is an artist and true America.

It’s 2010. This is the future. We have electric cars, free porn, and a robot on mars.  Anyone with an HD camera and laptop can achieve Hollywood quality production, but in light of all of this, Katt does it his way.  No fancy costumes or lighting or composition.  Just stick Gormley in front of a green screen in his work clothes.  Brilliant. Seriously.  I’m looking forward to the day when a signed band has the guts to hire Katt for an MTV-bound video.  Until that day here is Vomit Gun, filmed in Dad’s backyard.

p.s.  Best merch Ever !!!

Gas, Food, & Larogin’

I really can’t think of a better meatahophor for BR than the GFL Fest.  For decades some great music has figurative and literally passed through Baton Rouge without much sticking power.  With any luck I’ll be able to see some of these guys at SXSW but I’m glad they’re doing shows in BR.
